Have you ever heard of "REIKI（靈氣）"?
Reiki is a form of spiritual healing that works on the human energy field to restore balance and harmony. Today, it has become a popular form of complementary and alternative medicine all around the world.
It was originally founded in Kyoto by Master Mikao Usui in March 1922. After 21 days of fasting and meditation on top of Mt. Kurama, in the northern area of Kyoto, he was given a sudden shock of the enlightenment-like experience.
Ever since, he believed that one could heal themselves and others by utilizing this universal cosmic energy, and developed a healing method that is now known as the Usui Reiki Ryoho（「臼井靈氣療法」).
Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.
Reiki is a health method, but it does not deny the existing established methods of Western medicine and others. Rather, it enhances their effectiveness.
Is it difficult to become a Reiki practitioner or healer? Not it is not at all!
All you need is a day with a master healer of Reiki to give you so-called "attunement" sessions so that he/she can open a channel to have direct contact with the universal energy field all around us. (usually consists of 1st Degree, 2nd Degree, 3rd Degree, and more to become a healer, teacher, or master) Once you got the simple attunement, not only can you heal yourself, but you can also easily treat those around you.
I personally went through attunement sessions until 3rd Degree more than 15 years ago, but have not used it on myself nor others for a long time. However, I met a super nice woman who is a master healer of Japanese traditional lineage in Osaka a few years ago, and I have started to re-evaluate its power.
The funny fact is, though Reiki is increasing its popularity in the world, many Japanese don't know it is originated in Japan. As a matter of fact, over 90% of Reiki practitioners in Japan get attunement from the lineage of Western Reiki.
